How It All Began

Pishishi was formed in 2021 in Berlin as a response to the desire to explore hidden aspects of existence through sound.

The concept for the band began with Tilarids’ and Kvilas’ vision of creating music that not only engages listeners sonically, but also transports them into deeper, darker realms of thought and emotion.

Pishishi emerged from these contemplations, drawing on a wide array of influences, including sludge, grunge, metal, and hardcore, while infusing their sound with elements of noir and philosophical reflections.

This amalgamation gave birth to their distinct musical identity — a fusion of heavy, biting riffs and hauntingly raw vocals that break free from conventional genres.

The Origin Story of Pishishi:

The band’s name, Pishishi, was chosen for its unique resonance and symbolic meaning. Derived from an ancient, now-extinct language, it translates roughly to “to shake a tree to gather fruit.” This metaphor represents the process of life itself — shaking the tree of consciousness to bring down new ideas, emotions, and experiences that can only be revealed through the disturbance of stability. Just as fruit falls only when the branches are disturbed, the truths that Pishishi seeks to convey emerge from the chaos of sound and the tension between reality and illusion.

Kvila:

Kvila is a mysterious figure, often described as a voice from the void. She avoids using the pronoun “I” and prefers to speak of herself in the third person, viewing herself as a multiplicity of beings scattered across different dimensions. To Kvila, each song, each brushstroke in her art, is a manifestation of one of these versions of herself. Her identity is not static but rather fragmented and ever-changing, which is why her vocals are often characterized as both powerful and elusive — a haunting presence that seems to resonate from a place beyond time and space.

Kvila’s background is rooted in a lifetime of experimenting with different art forms, from music and painting to poetry and writing. Her approach to music and lyrics is driven by a desire to capture the complexity of existence and the perpetual conflict between the need for expression and the fear of revealing too much. This duality is at the core of Pishishi’s sound, making her performances both captivating and unsettling.

Tilarids:

Tilarids, the band’s guitarist and co-creator, brings a contrasting yet complementary energy to Pishishi. Known as the “Architect of Unpredictability,” he weaves elements of unpredictability and technical glitches into the structure of the band’s music. His compositions are filled with discordant harmonies and abrupt shifts that symbolize the fragility of human perceptions. Tilarids’ style disrupts the listener’s expectations, creating a sense of instability that mirrors the chaotic nature of emotions and thoughts.

His background as a composer and sound engineer allows him to merge seemingly incompatible elements into cohesive sonic narratives, transforming dissonance into a unique form of art. Before joining Pishishi, Tilarids played in the metal southern rock band, but it was with Pishishi that he found the freedom to fully express his experimental and boundary-defying approach.

A Conceptual Beginning:

Pishishi’s evolution was not linear but rather a series of interconnected events, creative outbursts, and philosophical explorations. The band initially focused on crafting songs that were reflections of Kvila’s internal worlds, with each composition acting as a “door” to a different reality. Tilarids embraced this approach, adding layers of sound that brought these worlds to life. Each track became a journey through fragmented identities and conflicting emotions, making Pishishi’s music a profound exploration of what it means to be truly alive in a world that often feels like an illusion.

The decision to create visual art in parallel with their music was a natural extension of their philosophy. Kvila’s and Tilarids’ paintings, often created in oil and charcoal, serve as visual representations of the band’s sonic themes — chaotic brushstrokes and surreal compositions that depict the fractured realities explored in their music. These artworks are not merely illustrations but integral parts of the band’s identity, adding another layer to the listener’s experience.

The Essence of Pishishi:

Pishishi is not just a band — it is a concept, an experience, and a challenge to conventional perceptions. Their music, visual art, and philosophical approach all serve one purpose: to disturb the stability of the mind and reveal the chaotic beauty of human existence. Whether through haunting vocals, distorted riffs, or surreal paintings, Pishishi offers listeners a glimpse into a reality where every emotion, every thought, and every experience is both a reflection and a distortion of the self.

Pishishi’s journey has only just begun, and with each new release, the band will continue to unravel the mysteries of the mind, exploring new realms of sound and emotion.

Tilarids

A wanderer of frequencies and a sonic painter, strumming rhythm guitar to weave chords through the fabric of time; plucking heartbeats from the void with low-tuned riffs and planting them in the soil of forgotten silence. That is to say he occupies both guitar and bass frequencies when composing songs.

Riding the electric guitar-powered airship, we ventured into the twilight of destiny’s reach. This is how we flew in the airship on the outskirts of fate, woven from ragged ladders hanging from it. I felt a chance to get closer to myself and my consciousness, but I disappeared again. My creativity flows from within, consuming me suddenly and at random.

Kvila

She exhales into the silence, shattering its calm; turning thoughts into songs, and she stirs the pulse of secret thresholds, where unseen universes hum to her rhythm and sway to the beat of her presence. In other words, she sings and plays drums.

Being alone is always eerie. The persistent feeling of someone else’s presence behind you or in the room keeps you from relaxing.
I wonder, who is it? There, inside me.

Kvila

Kvilas' Bio

Kvila began her musical career with the final concert she gave at the end of time. It was an incredible spectacle. Unfortunately, the video and photographs from that concert cannot be recovered, as the disc of doomed memory was damaged. But it was truly an unparalleled performance.

Throughout her musical journey, Kvila experienced both highs and lows, often losing herself in time. But how delightful it was to unexpectedly find herself in the right place at the right time, on magnificent stages where the devoted fans of Pishishi awaited her! Rehearsal after rehearsal, concert after concert, experience after experience—Kvila achieved what seemed impossible for any other Kvila, combining both wonder and dedication to her craft.
With each performance, Kvila delved deeper into the abyss of music, feeling her worlds come to life, and emoting in sync with the drum rhythms that confirmed the inevitable reality she breathed as she sang.

Her songs were born on the couch in the early dawn, as she grabbed her guitar, transferring what she heard in her dreams, and then, from time to time, she would hide away in the closet of oblivion to shed the unnecessary. Recordings, performances, film shoots—a whole kaleidoscope of events… Ideas floated around like fireflies, which Kvila chased through different worlds.

And then there was the cinema. Yes, she made a film with Tilarids, wrote a screenplay, painted hundreds of pictures, composed thousands of poems. She never finished her novel because she didn’t want anything to end, but in each song, she left a piece of it, like a puzzle from herself, which would crack each time she appeared on stage with Tilarids as part of the band Pishishi.

Kvila almost forgot how, as a child, she took vocal lessons in a rehearsal building. Every time she passed by the rehearsals of different bands, she would stop by their doors, peeking through a keyhole into something secret, listening and imagining herself stepping inside, inviting them to immerse themselves in her world of music. Time passed, and it seemed she would never have the courage to knock on any door. It was a strange feeling of detachment, waiting, a longing dulled by loneliness.

But now, Kvila feels capable of opening any door with her creativity. Her inner multidimensionality has become the place where the impossible becomes real.
