Throughout his whole life, David Lynch has been asked what he meant by his characters, concepts, and works, because they have to think too much about all that things, and nothing seems to be clear. Everything around him is always so unusual and mysterious, even the words in reverse sound incomprehensible and incorrect, but for him, it is quite natural. And David never explained his work, because his work speaks for itself.
For each song I have a feeling, reality, atmosphere, and a deep idea with my own philosophy; I have learned all this during my life and I am learning continuously. This is pure creativity, and everything has its own explanation and reason, of course. But I understand why David does not want to explain his work. Nobody should do it. And I won’t do it either. It is pointless to tell someone what and how to feel, and my songs are about exactly what is hidden inside everyone. This is like another key that opens your own realities if you are ready to face yourself. Each creator has his own vision, his own technique, his own images, concepts, and ways of expression. If you want to know what I wanted to say with the songs, just try to feel them. And it either causes something, or it doesn’t, you either feel something, or you don’t, and that’s okay. It makes no sense for the author to explain creativity, he can only show it, by opening the veil of his inner being.
I can only say what drives me. But I will not tell you what my lyrics are about, why the images in the songs are so hard to understand. What are these pieces of phrases and concepts about and why the incongruous is combined so weird way, why is it said the way, it is not usually should be said? People are used to seeing objects and concepts, I understand this, but I look at any concepts as alive beings, so I see living things in everything that interacts with each other in relative metaphorical order of perception. I love to play with concepts that have come to life inside of me on their own, which I have never met anywhere before. It may be good if people could start not to understand something and think about it, think out or see differently than just a usual way while moving away from the routine.
In other words, when it comes to lyrics, I compare the way of writing a song with the way of writing an abstract painting. It is inappropriate to say that the abstract artwork is wrong. In general, I paint with alive concepts, this is my art. I try to express myself in a manner that is unusual for the usual things and to talk about things that are hidden in the imagination but which are asking to dig deeper in order to find themselves.
This is a development of the imagination, not gray correctness, I propose to go beyond, as in the Doors song “Break on through the other side”. Of course, there are those who will not understand, because people are hidden in their cells of life and they are mired in labels and standards. But if you wish, you can always try to take yourself out of the standards and see what could be different, you can find the other realities and order of things. And then I will not speak further, because further, you will be able to see and feel, cognize and discover by yourself.
Each of my songs is like a unique message in a bottle: drifting and finding its listener, who sits on a desert island of his life in the void of fullness or in the fullness of emptiness. An uninhabited island of life is about the fact that a person is lonely, and he can feel like me. Feel and cognize. It doesn’t matter where this message came from and what is inside of it. This can be experienced by enjoying the trip of content as it is presented. And nothing requires any unnecessary explanations. This is not to say that someone is empty just because he is alone in his understanding of something.
But if I could say shortly about this, I think Pablo Picasso has already replied to this question in the best way: “Everyone wants to understand art. Why not try to understand the song of a bird? Why does one love the night, flowers, everything around one, without trying to understand them?”
